JOHAN TOBIAS SERGEL 1740-1814 Estocolm, Suècia

Johan Tobias Sergel (Estocolm, 28 d'agost de 1740 - 26 de febrer de Johan Tobias Sergel (Stockholm, August 28, 1740 - February 26, 1814) was an important Swedish neoclassical sculptor. He was the son of the decorator Christoffer Sergel and Elisabet, and the brother of the decorator Anna Brita Sergel. His first teacher was Pierre Hubert Larchevêque. After studying for some time in Paris, he went to Rome. Claimed by Gustav III, Sergel returned to Stockholm in 1779 and continued to produce his works there. Among these are the tomb for Gustav I of Sweden, a monument to Descartes, and a work on the Resurrection in the church of Saint Clarens in the Swedish capital. He was an important part of the artistic elite in Stockholm and had a relationship with the famous actress Fredrique Löwen, possibly being the father of one of her children. The Prado Museum owns a sculptural ensemble of his own.1814 va ser un important escultor neoclassicista suec.
